Links to Research Organisations in UKThe Public Record Office is the government records building at Kew in London. This fairly modern building houses government records including the 1066 Domesday Books. There is parking available and their is a cafeteria that sells lunch time snacks. There is a shopping park with parking nearby if the PRO car park is full. You will need to register and be given an induction tour and a free readers pass before you are allowed to enter the records area. You will only be allowed to take in a pencil and not even allowed a pencil sharpener. Although it is possible to take the underground train on the District Line's Richmond Branch to Kew the trains are not always reliable. The Family Records Centre
is at 1 Myddleton Street, Islington just outside the city of London. The
records include indexes of births, marriages and deaths from 1837, although
they do have some miscellaneous foreign returns of births from 1627. There
is a rather basic refrshment area, but the staff are friendly and helpful.
Parking may be possible on a meter or in a car Park at . It is a bit of
a walk from Angel Tube Station. Best access by Bus numbers 19, 38, 63
or 341. |
